Harmony House Health Care Center welcomes a new administrator

Waterloo, IA – January 5, 2009 – Dr. Barbara Murphy has joined the team at Harmony House Health Care Center, Waterloo, IA, owned by ABCM Corporation, Hampton, IA, as the new Administrator. Harmony House Health Care Center specializes in the treatment of traumatic brain injury, chronic respiratory failure, and adults with special needs. Murphy comes to Harmony House Health Care Center with over 30 years experience in Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Effective December 16, 2009, Murphy is responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of this community.

"I am extremely excited to have Dr. Murphy and her vast knowledge on our team at Harmony House,” says Richard Allbee, CEO of ABCM Corporation. “I feel she has the ability and experience to develop new clinical programs that far surpass what has occurred thus far in Iowa, and in turn, bring new meaning and purpose to those special people and families that we serve."

Murphy earned her PhD in counseling at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Throughout her substantial career, Murphy has held many leadership roles including Department Head for Sinai Hospital, Detroit, MI, Heritage Hospital, Southgate, MI, and Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA, gaining significant experience in program development, grant management, and government and accreditation liaison. Murphy then joined Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Kirkwood Community College, Iowa City, IA, as a Department Chair and professor teaching Business, Psychology and Health Care Administration.

Harmony House Health Care Center offers a generous range of medical and rehabilitative services including physical, occupational, speech and aquatics therapies; prevocational opportunities through horticultural and recreational therapies; ventilator programming with 24-hour skilled nursing care; and daily living skills through congregate living, community outings, meal preparation and household management.

The Harmony House Health Care Center living complex also provides a continuum of care through Danbury Circle, their on-site independent and assisted living apartments. Here, residents are provided with opportunities to further develop their independence, while working toward the goal of transition back into the community.

Harmony House Health Care Center has recently completed numerous updates to their community including the addition of a new life skills learning center and remodeled resident living areas.
