Saving and retreiving files

  • Please ensure that all files are saved to the My Documents folder. In addition this will assist you in locating your files at a later time and performing backups of your files.

Backing Up Files

  • Files on computers with internet access can be backed up to flash drive.
  • In order to determine the flash drive will have adequate available memory please check the size of your My Documents folder.
    • To do this you can Right Click on the My Documents folder and then click on properties. In the General tab you will see Size on disk: *size of folder*. You should ensure that the flash drive that you are using has enough space not only for the existing My Documents folder but also for future file additions to that folder.
  • If you do not have a flash drive that you can use you can obtain one from ABCM Net as flash drives are on the formulary.
  • To back up the files simply copy the My Documents folder to the flash drive.
  • Once the My Documents folder is copied over to the flash drive the first time. The computer will ask you, each subsequent time, if you wish to overwrite the files. You should select yes in order to maintain a backup of the most recent versions of those files.
